Most people will tell you that the book was better than the movie. But why? What made it so much better?
Regardless of the book being better than the movie, it doesn’t make us not want to watch the movie. Just the opposite. We love to see our favorite characters portrayed on the screen. We love to hate when they change the story line or how we think a character is in the book.
Join us for #BIMAR Books Into Movies At Readgab and share what you think of the movie version of the book. Our version of a watch party does not have a size limit. We don’t invite anyone’s face into your living room. We like to keep it simple and possible for anyone with internet who wants to join in. Check the schedule and pick what movie you want to join us for. We will all sit down and start the movie at the same time. Then tweet our thoughts as we watch. So much fun! We try to pick only movies available on Netflix, Prime, and Disney+. If you don’t have these services, you can still join us! Just plan in advance to rent the movie or get it from the library. Don’t have or want a Twitter account? Join us by posting comments on Readgab’s Facebook page instead! I am still fairly new to Twitter, and I love it and recommend it because I’m all about brevity. You should give it a try.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2118″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Friday November 6th 9PM EST Star Girl available on Disney+

Can I tell you how hard it was to make this list of what to watch next? October’s list was so easy because I did them all based on Halloween books/movies. But when I started to look at what to start watching for November there were just too many to pick from. I would love your recommendations if you want to make a comment below about what we should include on our next schedules because it is too hard to decide!
I think there will always be a degree of some people preferring watch parties on Fridays and some people preferring them on Saturdays so I will change up the days that we do #booksintomovies, usually alternating every other weekend. But if there is a certain #booksintomovies you want to recommend we do in the future please comment so that we can schedule it when you can join! Here is the lineup for the rest of this calendar year.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2135″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_cta h2=”” use_custom_fonts_h2=”true” use_custom_fonts_h4=”true”]
Friday November 6th 9PM EST Star Girl available on Disney+
Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli is without a doubt one of the cutest books I’ve ever read and I can’t wait to watch the movie. I hear there are definite differences so I will probably need to reread the book before watching this. This is a great book that almost any age can enjoy. I’m guessing ages 10 and up. My sister had an English teacher read this to her when she was in high school and the class really enjoyed it. I was in my late 20’s the first time I read Star Girl. If you haven’t read this book, you should. It is a quick read and so so good! Test the limits of how much a person is willing to be unique and how you would support her in that.[/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Saturday November 14th 8PM EST The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society available on Netflix
I listened to Guernsey by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shafferon on CD, and I highly recommend it as one to listen to. It is written as a series of letters and instead of having one author do multiple voices they have a reader for each character. This is still probably one of my very favorite audio books. I am sure it is also a great read if you prefer the written word. Whether you read or listen to the book or just want to join us for a fun movie night, we can’t wait for you to join us for this one! This would be a great one to get some people from #HATM in on because of its historical content. During the German occupation, a group found themselves getting creative for how to legally gather when they are caught out after curfew. Maybe it is also my love of book clubs that gets me on this one. In my many moves around the country, I have never been involved in such a unique book club as the people in Guernsey![/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Friday November 20th 9PM EST Dumplin available on Netflix
Every body is a swimsuit body! I think Dumplin is my favorite movie of 2019! Such a great movie about loving your body, no matter how it looks! Every now and then I watch the movie before the book and this is one of them. I had never even heard of the book by Julie Murphy or the movie until one night when my husband was out of town and the kids were in bed, I sat down for my customary “eat too much sugar to cope w/a rough day.” I know I digress, but guys, this is how I cope. Whenever my husband is going out of town I go to the store and load up on all of my favorite sweets to help me get through those stressful days with the kids. I have this curse where my kids ALWAYS get sick when my husband travels and I have discovered stress eating to be the only way to cope. So there I was with no show planned, but sweets ready, I turned on Netflix and happened upon this treasure. And now that I know it is a book, I can’t wait to read it and then rewatch this favorite movie! Willowdean (Danielle Macdonald) is the last person ex-beauty queen Rosie (Jennifer Aniston) expected to sign up for the beauty pagent, but when her daughter does sign up she assumes she is doing it to start a fight between the two of them. And it is true that Willowdean has ulterior motives when it comes to the pageant. Willowdean is nothing like her beauty pageant mom in interest or appearance. Join us for Willowdean’s inspiring “protest in heels.”[/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Saturday November 28th 8PM EST Artemis Fowl available on Disney+
I read this story years ago, and when I saw that Disney came out with a movie version, I knew that this would need to be one of Readgab’s first #booksintomovies! If you could solve your family’s financial problems by kidnapping a fairy, would you do it? Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer is such an exciting read for youth and adults![/vc_cta][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_cta h2=””]
Friday December 4th Hidden Figures Disney+
I haven’t read Margot Lee Shetterly’s book yet, but I loved the movie! I know this #booksintomovie will make for some great discussion and can’t wait to read your Tweets about these three exemplar black women working in a field that was even more dominated by white men in their time. [/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Friday December 11th & Saturday December 12th The Grinch
You guys, how could I possibly choose which of the Grinch movies to watch?!?! Solution? We. Will. Watch. Them. All!
- The Grinch 1966 Friday 9PM
- The Grinch 2000 w/Jim Carrey Saturday 10/12 2PM EST – Netflix
- The Grinch 2018 w/Benedict Cumberbatch Saturday 10/12 8PM EST – Netflix.
Is it any wonder there are so many versions of this treasured classic of Dr. Seuss? The transformation we see the Grinch go through is a heartwarming Christmas classic! Which version of The Grinch is your favorite?[/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Friday December 18th A Christmas Carol on Disney+
Nothing says Christmas memories like the reading and watching of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. My husband and I try to read it together every year. Many people read aloud to their children, but do you ever read out loud with another adult? There are many great versions of the classic made into a movie. This year we will enjoy watching Disney’s A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. Join us in the spooky Christmas tale of a man who in one night sees the changes he has gone through throughout his life. If you looked back on your own life and really got to rewatch details, I wonder if you would make similar changes the next morning. Or would it all have been just a bad dream?[/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Saturday December 26th The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
I think C. S. Lewis is one of the greatest authors to ever live. It takes some amazing skill to write a children’s book with so much excitement and be so rich with symbolism. The winter holiday is a great time to watch this classic tale of four children who take a journey to another world to become their own best selves and save that world from a reign of terror. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to grow to adulthood and then one day to go back to a time that had become a distant dream. Would it be great to relive all of those years once again? Or would you wish you had been able to stay in your prime adult years?[/vc_cta][vc_custom_heading text=”I really look forward to this line up. It was so hard to choose, but there are plenty more weekends with more #booksintomovies coming in 2021! When tweeting remember to use #BIMAR for Books Into Movies At Readgab. The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society was an amazing book. I’ll be watching to see how the movie compares.
The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society was a great movie. I guess I didn’t realize it was a book first. Now I will have to go read it.
