Saturday Sept 26th 8:00PM EST Room on the Broom
Available on Netflix and Prime
This is a great short one for the littles to enjoy with the family. The movie is based on a cute picture book and so much fun to read or watch! You can enjoy this (as well as every other show in our lineup) whether you’ve read the book before or not.
Update: My kids had so much fun listening to me read this book to them and then watching the mini movie together. I thought the creators of the film did such a great job of their portrayal of their characters! I especially loved the witch and the dragon! I did think that the cat was portrayed differently in the movie than in the book, but really, to be able to make the picture book into even a mini movie, they had to take some liberties.[/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Saturday Oct 3rd 5:00 PM EST The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr Toad 8:00 PM Sleepy Hollow
Available on Disney+ (Ichabod) and Netflix (Sleepy Hollow)
Who doesn’t love the story of the headless horseman? He is featured in so many stories and shows, but he first starred in The Legend of Sleepy Hallow by Washington Irving. It is a quick read that you could enjoy alone or listen to it on Audible. I remember watching The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad as a child and always loved this slightly spooky kids show! I can’t wait to watch it for the first time with my own children this year. This is another great one for the whole family to enjoy together! Then one for just adults is Sleepy Hollow. I have never seen this one, but I can only imagine it will be fantastically weird. I mean Johnny Depp and Tim Burton? Sounds like a team for movie night Halloween spectacular fun![/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_cta h2=””]
Saturday Oct 10th 8:00 PM EST Witches
Available on Netflix
This one is one of my favorites! “Here little kid, have some candy.” Harsh lesson learned – never take candy from strangers! My husband read this classic of Roald Dahl’s to our son a couple of years ago and they both loved it. It will be fun to watch the movie together. Those witches are so scary looking! Another movie I remember from when I was a kid so will be fun to watch as a family together, though maybe after the younger kids are asleep.[/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=”” h2_font_container=”font_size:16|color:%23150b44″ h2_google_fonts=”font_family:ABeeZee%3Aregular%2Citalic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” h4_font_container=”font_size:14|color:%23150b44″ h4_google_fonts=”font_family:ABeeZee%3Aregular%2Citalic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” use_custom_fonts_h2=”true” use_custom_fonts_h4=”true”]
Saturday Oct 17th 8:00 PM EST Goosebumps 2
Available on Netflix
I have been meaning to watch this one for sometime and am excited to finally be watching it this month because I love RL Stine’s books!! I thought the first Goosebumps movie was really well done. Great suspense, mystery, and plenty of parts that made me jump. And I mean, how can you go wrong? More Jack Black and there’s a Giant Gummy Bear on the cover, soooo, do I need to say more? Black. Giant Gummy Bear. Yep, that’s going to be a good combo. You may want to watch or rewatch Goosebumps 1 sometime beforehand so that you are caught up on the storyline. I remember when I was a kid I could read one of these Goosebumps books in a day. I would sit outside and read and then go inside and read and then go to the kitchen to read while I ate. I was hooked on these books. So fun to revisit the adventures as an adult![/vc_cta][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_cta h2=””]
Friday Oct 23rd 9:00 PM EST Hocus Pocus
Available on Disney+
Ok, I really wanted to do this one on my birthday this month because it is an all-time favorite movie of mine, but I figured I better leave myself a little extra time to read the book. Did you guys know that Disney came out with a book!?!? I didn’t until I was creating this schedule. I will be picking up my copy from the library soon. The book has two parts. The first is a retelling of the movie, with some additional details. The second is a sequel to the end of the movie. I haven’t read it yet, but am super excited to go on another adventure with the Sanderson sisters![/vc_cta][vc_cta h2=””]
Saturday Oct 31st 9:00 PM EST The Nightmare Before Christmas
Available on Disney+
So many great classics in the Halloween Books Into Movies lineup! I didn’t realize that Tim Burton’s classic holiday film was based on a poem. But so excited that it is so that it made the cut into our #booksintomovies fest![/vc_cta][vc_single_image image=”2077″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_wp_text]
Do you know a book that was turned into a movie that you would like us to include in our upcoming schedule? We are experimenting with Friday vs Saturday nights and I would love to hear what days/times work best for everyone. We choose 8 & 9 PM EST so that it wouldn’t be too late for the east coast or too early for the west coast. Share comments below.
I got the idea for Books Into Movies at Readgab #BIMAR from #HATM. My husband is a historian and has been following Historians And The Movies for some time now. If you are into history you should check them out as well at HATM They do their shows on Sundays so you can catch both.
Loved the movie Sleepy Hollow? If you love darkly romantic books then check out Rebecca F Kenney’s retelling of Sleepy Hollow available Oct 7th. Check out more about Rebecca here.
